There has been fairly extensive coverage in the US press about the Sarrazin controversy in Germany, but, surprisingly few expressions of solidarity with the polarizing central banker. Some of this is because America is preoccupied with its own Islamophobic panic attack concerning the so-called Ground Zero Mosque. The neo-conservative writers at the Weekly Standard and National Review would normally be sympathetic with Sarrazin and his worldview but have been turned off by his preoccupation with Jews and the "Jewish gene".
I think that Sarrazin's crude racial typology also doesn't resonate as much with Americans. After all, the 7 million plus Muslims living in the US are, for the most part, an educated and prosperous group and bear little resemblance to Sarrazin's vulgar stereotypes of Turks and Arabs living in Germany. We have been through all of this in the past with the hysteria concerning the "Yellow Peril " (Chinese immigrants), Italians, Catholics from Europe, even Germans. Each time the chattering classes and pundits used language identical to Sarrazin's to demonize a particular ethnic group.
Nevertheless, there are some huge fans of Sarrazin here. Several of these can be found over at the Webzin Alternative Right, which is loosely associated with the German neo-fascist weekly Junge Freiheit. Alternative Right completely subscribes to Sarrazin's thesis of biological determinism, except that it applies it primarily to African-Americans rather than Muslims: the magazine is devoted to extolling the superiority of the white race. The editor-in-chief of Alternative Right, Richard Spencer, has posted several articles endorsing Herr Sarrazin's racial views, and these have elicited dozens of admiring comments. One commenter named "Heartfelt" was moved to write:
I support him (Sarrazin). I will take up arms in support of him and I have the funds with which to target his opponents. Where do sign I up?
Of course, I am completely serious, to an extent you folks can't yet understand, which should scare the sh*it out of our globalist opponents and their Afro-Muslim foot-soldiers.
Gott mit uns.
I discovered another group of Sarrazin enthusiasts after I published a post about the German neo-Nazi NPD's support of Sarrazin's book. It turns out that NPD has an American support group: the American Friends of the NPD. Who knew? This group of neo-Nazi fans has rallied to Sarrazin's defense with a lively discussion forum. "Thank you, Mr. Sarrazin" Unfortunately, much of the content on this site appears to be lifted from the German site and posted through Google Translator, and so nearly incomprehensible.
So there you have it. Herr Sarrazin does have a core group of American supporters. The fan base will only grow if an American version of his book is released.
