You would think the Bush administration would be alarmed by humanitarian crisis in Lebanon and the sectarian violence in Iraq which is killing 100 civilians each day. Nope, it's all part the Bush adminstration's Grand Strategy for the birth of real democracy in the Middle East. The destruction of Lebanon is really the "birth pangs" of Freedom:
Condoleezza Rice has described the plight of Lebanon as a part of the "birth pangs of a new Middle East" and said that Israel should ignore calls for a ceasefire."This is a different Middle East. It's a new Middle East. It's hard, We're going through a very violent time," the US secretary of state said."A ceasefire would be a false promise if it simply returns us to the status quo."
Does anyone else see the irony in the childless Secretary of State talking about birth pangs? More on Rice's comments from TooMuchCookies. Anyway, so far the Bush strategy has been a smashing success.
In his foreign policy President Bush is making excellent use of his Harvard MBA. He is simply applying the principles of good business outlined by Tom Peters and other management gurus in the theory of Creative Destruction. In this theory, the enterprise must continually reinvent itself if it wants to grow and capture innovation. This often means "blowing up" the organization in order to save it. In business the casualties are often middle management jobs and short-term profits. When applied to the Middle East, the casualties are human life. To execute his business foreign polic plan, President Bush has expedited shipments of bombs to Israel. But the Creative Destruction is not progressing fast enough for some of Bush's neoconservative allies in Washington: they are already dreaming of World War III.
I think if those NeoCons are so eager for war they should grab their guns and go.
