Not only have the German taxpayers paid out billions of euros in bailout funds due to Deutsche Bank's role in the subprime mortgage crisis, it now turns out they unknowingly paid for a birthday bash for DB CEO Joe Ackermann that was held at the Chancellery:
Ackermann recalls how his good friend Angela Merkel told him to invite 30 close friends to celebrate his 60th birthday. "It was a beautiful evening" ("Es war ein wunderschöner Abend.) No doubt it was a rewarding evening for Ackermann and Deutsche Bank. The bank has profited handsomely in "advising" the German government on policy for addressing the financial crisis that it helped to create.
