Geert Wilders: Ambassador of Hate

An American right-wing extremist group, Stop Islamization of America (SIOA), has announced a hate rally on Sept. 11, 2010 where luminaries of the US Republican Party will be joined by Dutch Extremist Geert Wilders:

The confirmed list of speakers includes 9/11 family members; former U. S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton; former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich; the Dutch Parliamentarian and freedom fighter Geert Wilders; Gary Berntsen, a candidate for the U.S. Senate from New York; Jordan Sekulow of the American Center for Law and Justice, which has filed suit to stop the Ground Zero mega-mosque; Ginny Thomas, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas's wife; Michael Grimm, a candidate for Congress from New York's 13th district and a 9/11 first responder; and journalist Andrew Breitbart.

The event is being organized by the blogger Pamela Geller, "The Poster Girl for Eurofascism". 

Geert Wilders is one of the most polarizing figures on the world stage.  It comes as no surprise that he would join in an effort to hijack a day of reflection on the 9th anniversary of the World Trade Center attack with his message of religious intolerance.  What is more deplorable is that he is joined in this mission of hate by leading representatives of one of America's two political parties.

Contrast this to what happened in Berlin when a local conservative politician - Rene Stadtkewitz (CDU) - invited Geert Wilders to a meeting on Islam that will take place in October.  The Christian Democrats were furious and have threatened to expel Stadtkewitz.  The CDU's regional head, Frank Henkel, said:

"There is no place in our party for people who demonize Islam and pass judgment on believers in other religions,"

GOP leaders like Newt Gingrich are embracing Geert Wilders, and hope to ride right-wing Tea Party populism to political victory.  Even if it means negating the principle of religious freedom that is the bedrock of the United States.

My guess is, you've never actually met a Muslim.
