You guys obviously haven't heard of Rhopke or the Freiburg school of economics. Google up Ordoliberalism and do yourselves a favour.

Erhard's economic policy's were directly influenced by these guys. The ordoliberalists believed that while capitalism was a good, it was prone to self destruction and the exploitation of man. They saw that lasseiz faire capitalism led to there being far too few capitalists and that the role of the state was to make sure that Capitalism did not destroy itself.
